Indie Games
04 Mar 2025Attending industry events can be a game-changer for indie developers. We spoke with Simon Malinen from EmberOath Games about his experience at Arctic Game Dev in Umeå.
Hey Simon, you participated at Arctic Game Dev in Umeå. Looking back, what are your key takeaways from the event?
– Hey! I got a really good impression of the event. I had the privilege of talking to many interesting people connected to the games industry. It was also an eye-opener to gain deeper insight into the process of launching a game.
Did you have any specific meetings or insights during the event that were particularly valuable for EmberOath Games?
– I thought the entire event was very well-organized, but two things stood out the most. First, I found the networking extremely valuable – meeting and getting advice from people with extensive experience in game launches. And as always, it was a great opportunity to receive feedback on my own work to improve my project.
Do you see any potential collaborations that emerged from the event?
– Yes, absolutely! I definitely see opportunities for future collaborations. The conversations were really valuable and opened up new perspectives on how I can develop my project further.
How do you feel that Arctic Game and similar initiatives support young studios like yours?
– Arctic Game has been incredibly valuable for me, especially as a solo developer. They provide not only opportunities to network and find potential collaborations but also a platform to receive feedback and gain visibility in the industry. The collaboration so far has been positive, and we’ve really felt supported – both in understanding the market and in the practical aspects of running a game studio.
What are the next steps for your studio?
– The next step is to enter the market and launch my first title, which will be available soon on Android and iOS.
