Intersective Game
27 Aug 2025Since 2018, participants from around the world have traveled to Boden to take part in Valkyrie Jam. Over ten intensive days, eleven experienced women and non-binary game developers gathered to create games, sharpen their skills, and explore new game technologies – with a special focus on motion capture.
The participants, including programmers, designers, and artists, spent their days building game prototypes and testing new approaches to game development. For the first time, thanks to the project Intersective Game, they had the opportunity to try out Boden Game Park’s motion capture technology, based on Rokoko suits and cameras. Movements were captured in real time and translated directly into game engines such as Unreal Engine and Blender.
– The participants was able to experience the magic of seeing animations take shape instantly as they moved, a process that saves an incredible amount of development time, says BjörnHortell, project leader at Boden Game Camp.
The system’s flexibility allows for both experimentation and spontaneity. The portable Rokoko setup requires only suits, a camera, a puck, and a computer, making it possible to record movements in different environments and immediately test, adjust, and refine animations. This gave participants the freedom to explore entirely new creative directions and ideas.
The sense of community was just as important as the technology. Throughout the jam, participants collaborated closely, shared knowledge, and inspired one another.
– The Valkyrie Jam is a wonderful initiative to create a safe space for like-minded people in the industry to meet, create meaningful connections by making a game together, and have fun in beautiful northern Sweden! says Diana Calistru, Mega Raccoon Games, participant at Valkyrie Jam.
Valkyrie Jam 2025 demonstrated how technical innovation, creative freedom, and collaboration can lead to results that inspire and drive change. For ten days, Boden became a place where ideas came to life, movements transformed into animations, and creativity had free rein.
