Boosting Luleå's gaming scene: Björn Hortell steps in as Local Project Manager

What will you be doing in your new role?
– In this role, I work to create the conditions for the games industry to grow and thrive in Luleå. I will be the local Project Manager for Arctic Game at Luleå Science Park, handling game projects that focus on both game companies and gamification methodologies in other industries. The goal is to ensure access to skills, capital, and support for game-related companies.

What experiences/roles do you bring from your previous work?
– In my most recent role, I started a tech and gaming startup where we developed Haystack, a social dating service for meeting and getting to know others through fun online activities. It felt wrong that dating apps focus solely on appearance; we wanted to give people the chance to connect more deeply and in a more enjoyable way. Through Haystack, it became natural for me to work towards improving the conditions for tech and games, which makes this role feel both exciting and fitting. Before Haystack, I worked in business development and sales at various software companies.

Who are you outside of work?
– Outside of work, I'm quite similar to who I am on the job. I can enjoy quiet moments, but I prefer when things are happening. Adventures are exciting, and I’ve previously traveled extensively, focusing on adventure, diving, and underwater photography. I had a teenage dream of working for National Geographic. These days, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing board games, and heading to the mountains in winter.
